The Taliban is an Islam Military and political group that formerly ruled Afghanistan. The Taliban was kicked out Afghanistan during the U.S invasion. However it is rumored that the group still exists and resides in Pakistan. The Taliban still causes terrorists attacks and is allies with Al-Queda. Al-Queda is Osama Bin Ladan's terrorist group. Osama founded al-Queda at around 1996 after he was kicked out of Saudi Arabia. The group was used for terrorist attacks against the U.S due to Osama'a hatred. Al-Queda has also launched attacks against other "western influenced countries" Osama believes in creating an Islam country and has a strong hatred of the U.S and Israel.
ReplyDeleteAl-Queda was the Terrorist group in charge of the attack so Osama planned it. There were a total of 19 hijackers on the 4 flights, 5 hijackers for each flight except for flight 93 which had 4 hijackers. Most of the terrorists were from Saudi Arabia. The plan was to "wake up the American people" Al-Qeuda was blaming America for all the problems there people were experiencing so Osama decided to inflict some pain on America as well.
After 9/11 the Muslim community faced harsh discrimination. Even now over 10 years later there is still discrimination in the U.S. After 9/11 anti-Muslim bullying emerged through out the nation despite the fact most Muslims are innocent and had nothing to do with the attack. Many Muslims were scared to wear their tradition Muslim Hijabs because of the hatred they were receiving. Osama blamed America for the problems Muslims were facing but ended up making it even worse for Muslims in America.
In America there was a sense of shock after 9/11. No one had ever expected an assault like 9/11 we never saw it coming. However, unlike Osama's plan to make us fear him we became even more strongly united. For the next week there was constant shows dedicated to America and its spirit. After 9/11 airport security skyrocketed you can no longer even bring on toenail clippers and there are metal detectors for bombs. Also we started to hunt for Osama and sent are soldiers and agents all over the world. 9/11 was a horrible assault, but America recovered.

DeleteSt. Petersburg Times’ special website with information about 9-11 shows images of the terrorists involved in the attacks. In their photographs, it appears strange to think that these men could have conducted these acts of mass murder. Egyptian terrorist Mohamed Atta was a pilot and group leader of the hijackers that took control of American Airlines Flight 11, along with four Saudis, two of whom were brothers. Atta is thought to have planned out the attacks on September 11th. United Flight 175 pilot and group leader Marwan al-Shehhi was from the United Arab Emirates. He was with three Saudi hijackers and additional person of unknown origin. Many of these men lived in or near Delray Beach, Florida. While we know that American Airlines Flight 77 pilot and group leader was Hani Hanjour, we do not know much about his fellow hijackers’ ages or nationalities. On United Flight 93, Ziad Samir Jarrah, pilot and group leader led a group of only three other hijackers, which may have lead to the failure of their attack.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Steve Coll’s article in the New Yorker, Osama bin Laden was born on March 10, 1957. His parents divorced right after he was born. His schoolmates did not realize that this quiet young man would eventually become the most powerful terrorist leader in the world. Although he was not raised particularly religious, he ran into major extremist religious groups in school and became influenced by them. According to Kimberly Kagan in the video, “Taliban vs. Al Qaeda,” the Taliban invited him into Afghanistan. The Taliban are a jihadist extremist military group that leads parts of Afghanistan. Al Qaeda has a worldwide focus while the Taliban is concentrated mainly in Afghanistan. Al Qaeda sees Afghanistan as the “cornerstone” of their operation, as Kimberly Kagan states in her panel discussion with Katie Couric.
Before 9-11, the concept of Islam was not understood or discussed often by non-Muslim US citizens. Immediately after 9-11, Muslims were profiled and bullied in school and work in regards to the incident. However there were many occurrences of kindness from non-Muslim Americans towards the Muslim population. Still, at airports, Muslims are often questioned more frequently and to harsher measures than are non-Muslims. The Park51 Islamic center sparked controversy this past fall. The facility is an Islamic family community center and a mosque near where the World Trade Center fell. Many people argue against it, but others argue that they should not show such prejudice towards a group of people who share the same religion as the hijackers, though they obviously don’t harbor the same negative principles as the terrorists.
Michael Nacht, professor of public policy at UC Berkley, stated that after 9-11 America has “unprecedented debt, unprecedented deficits, as far as the eye can see …the economic weakness of the United States was greatly accelerated by our response to 9/11.” Aside from the financial deficits of 9/11, we have made great strides as a country to commemorate those who died in the attacks. An image of the reflection pool memorial at Ground Zero resembles the base of the World Trade Center. It is black and has water flowing around it to demonstrate the emptiness that our country felt and still feels today, but it also represents peace. While America is still affected by 9/11 in many ways, we have begun to heal.

ReplyDeleteWail al-Shehri, Marwan al-Shehri, and Satam al-Suqami were some of the 19 terrorists that we involved with the 9/11 attacks. The terrorists were from the Islamist Militant group Al Qaeda. Suspicion quickly fell on al-Qaeda, and in 2004, the group's leader Osama bin Laden, who had initially denied involvement, claimed responsibility for the attacks. Al-Qaeda and bin Laden cited U.S. support of Israel, the presence of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia, and sanctions against Iraq as motives for the attacks.
ReplyDeleteThe United States responded to the attacks by launching the War on Terror and invading Afghanistan to get rid of the Taliban, which had harbored al-Qaeda. Muslims were targeted, due to the attacks. They were judged and discriminated against. Places of worship were heavily guarded. Muslim people were more frequently searched at airport security’s. Overall, people that were Muslim or Hindu were looked at differently because of the impact Al Qaeda had on our country.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Osama bin Laden had a lot to do with the attacks. They both were the main organizers in the plot. Mohammed was found in 2003, he was found guilty and hung. Osama bin Laden was found in 2011 and shot to death. Both were of Muslim decent and said that the attacks were because of mistakes the U.S. had made according to their beliefs.
Overall, my thoughts on the attacks are similar to anybody else’s. First, the attackers of 9/11 were cowards because right after it happened they went into hiding, where they eventually would be found. Second, the attacks were horrible of course but, it made us proud to be Americans that day, no matter who you were, wherever you were you were an American. Lastly, the treatment of Muslims after the attacks was horrible and unnecessary. They were completely discriminated against for something they weren’t involved in.

The Taliban were originally one of the mujahideen, or freedom fighter, groups that formed during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in 1979. Once the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan it caused a power vacuum, as the country turned into violence in which the Taliban capitalized on. Now the Taliban are a Islam political and military group that is no longer in power in Afghanistan due to the American Military being stationed there. The Taliban are still causing terrorist attacks and were partly responsible for 9/11 due to their alliance with Al-Qaeda.
ReplyDeleteAl-Qaeda is one of the most notorious terrorist organizations. It is a network of extremist organized by the infamous Osama bin Laden and his chief advisor al-Zawahiri. This terrorist group was started in the 1990’s after Osama bin Laden had been kicked out of Saudi Arabia. This group was responsible for the attack of 9/11. They blamed America for all their problems similar to the Nazis in World War II with the Jews. That day a total of 19 hijackers boarded four flights with the intention of “Waking up the American people.” In addition, added key planers for this act of horror were Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and Hambali. The attacks where mainly to install fear to American citizens and alter the American way of life, but it did not succeed.
After the dramatic attack of 9/11 the Muslim community faced great discrimination, especially in the U.S. Many Sikhs people suffered discrimination due to their similar looks to the Muslim race. 4 Days after the attack on 9/11 Balbir Singh Sodhi was shot and murdered by Frank Roque outside of a gas station in Arizona. It was the first fatal act of hatred after 9/11. Frank Roque simply selected his victim due to his long beard and turban, which is in accordance with his religion. He was sentenced to life in prison for this act and other acts against nearby Afghan descents.
After the terrorist attack of 9/11 the country was in shock. It was unheard of anything like this ever happening on our home soil. This was an act to install fear in all denizens of America, but it backfired. The attack made us unit as a nation and brought a sense of nationalism to our country. In addition, we increased security at airports in order to prevent any further attacks. Finally, we increased our efforts to find Osama, and eventually killed him recently after a long time searching all over the globe.

The attack on September 11, 2012 was a highly planned out operation done by Osama bin Laden and his group of terrorists known as Al-Qaeda. The objective and purpose of the 9/11 attack was to scare Americans and make them live in fear. The specific reason is truly unknown, but it is believed that they attacked because of our support of Israel and the sanctions imposed on Iraq. There were four planes that the hijackers took over. These were flight 11, flight 77, flight 175, and flight 193. Osama Bin Laden hand picked his members depending on his respect he has towards them and their fighting and flying skills. There were 19 hijackers in all, and their was one pilot terrorist per each plane. He would be the head of each "mission" to hit the target they were given. Some of these hijackers are named Mohamed Atta, Khalid Almihdhar, Fayez Rashid, and Ahmad Haznawi.
ReplyDeleteOsama bin Laden, Al Qaeda, and the Taliban all played a major role in 9/11. Osama bin Laden was the head of the attack and he was the founder of his terrorist group known as Al Qaeda. At first he denied everything about the attack but then he said he was responsible for 9/11. Many people believed that bin Laden planned everything about the attack, but he did not. A member of Al Qaeda named Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was the architect of the attack on the twin towers and he was one of Osama's partners and highly leveled terrorists. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was also responsible for the earlier attack of the twin towers in 1993. After the attack Al Qaeda basically said that we will be seeing alot more terrorist attacks because their religion tells them to do so.
A group known as the Taliban also played a part in 9/11. The Taliban ruled Afghanistan for five years until 2001. They were extremely bad leaders who treated women poorly and they supported terrorism. They ordered Afghans very strictly under Islamic Law which had very strange laws. For example, television and internet were not allowed. The terrorist organization, Al Qaeda, had a good relationship with the Taliban. They sheltered Osama bin Laden and the Al Qaeda group. After September 11, 2001, The Talibans lost power because the nations that supported them had cut their ties with them. Also, America bombed them when they refused to give up Osama.
The Muslim community in America was harshly effected after 9/11. Many non-muslim Americans have been racist towards Muslims because of the incident and they do not treat them like "true" Americans. Many Americans misunderstand the religion that muslims practice and they believe that they all believe in terrorism and risking their lives for religion. According to an article called "Muslims discuss impact of 9-11 on their community", they say that some muslims are criticized on a daily basis and are the subjects of suspicion.
It is now about ten years later, and we are recovering tremendously from the attack. We try to forget what has happened, but it will always be remembered. After 9/11, for the first time, America truly came together as one because every single person was effected by the devastating attack on the twin towers and the pentagon. There is a photograph of firemen holding up an American flag on 9/11 that symbolizes that we will get through this together. Lastly, almost ten years after 9/11, Osama bin Laden was killed by a US Navy SEAL. This act gave us extra hope in our fight against terrorism and Al Qaeda.

ReplyDeleteThe event of 9/11 in 2001 changed the lives of millions of Americans. To change the life of millions, there must be people involved. It took 19 different terrorists on 9/11 to destroy the world trade center, damage the pentagon, crash into a baseball field, and overall kill millions of American lives. Flight 11 which crashed into the North tower contained five hijackers, four Saudi-Arabians and one Egyptian. Flight 175, which flew into the South tower, also contained five terrorists, two from United Arab Emirates and the other three from Saudi Arabia. The Pentagon flight 77 contained another five hijackers, all Saudi-Arabian. The last flight, which crashed into the Pennsylvania baseball field, had only four hijackers, three Saudi-Arabian and one Lebanese.
ReplyDeleteOsama Bin Laden, or the leader of the terrorist organization “Al Qaeda,” was the alleged perpetrator of the 9/11 attacks on the United States. “Al Qaeda” or “the base” is a terrorist organization of Muslims against the United States. Osama was a man who had the idea that “wars are only won by killing”(Scheuer 394) and he and his organization are responsible for the deaths of millions of Americans on 9/11/2001. The Taliban were the former Afghanistan rulers. In 1996, this group gave the Al Qaeda a safe haven, giving Osama Bin Laden the power to conduct a terrorist attack on America.
The September 11th terrorist attack had a lasting effect on Americans, but even more so for the Muslim community. Muslims or Arab American living in the United States during this time suddenly felt different. Many Americans automatically became prejudice towards them after the attacks. Also, people looked at Muslims differently and began to question the lives of them personally. For example, Basma Raddat, a Muslim woman from Boston saw two sides of the community, some who thought a Muslim was automatically guilty, and some who could distinguish. She states, “I don’t blame them in either case because what happened was horrible for everyone-it was horrible for me” (Raddat).
The event of 9/11 had some type of effect on everyone living in America. A major effect of 9/11 was airplane flying. Americans feared something bad was going to occur because of 9/11 and the airplane business went down in a major way. Immigration in America also changed after 9/11. It became very hard to become a US citizen, especially for Muslims after 9/11. One last thing that 9/11 had an effect on was politics. Politics became increasingly crude and aggressive because people wanted to do everything to keep America out of danger. With all the downfalls after 9/11, there was also a high sense of unity. America came together in mourning for the deaths and worked hard to make America united and safe.

After 9/11 the lives of Muslims in America drastically changed. Some embraced their religion and became more religious, while others felt that their religion became a burden and decided to separate themselves from the Muslim community. “Directly following 9/11 hate crimes against Muslims and people perceived to be Muslim, rose 1,700% in 2001” (Tindongan). The part of the community that was most effected was young people who have faced bullying and have lost friends because of stereotypes of Muslims being violent. The 9/11 attacks have also changed the way Muslims identify themselves and they have to create a hybrid identity in order to continue their lives as Muslim-Americans. Overall, 9/11 has led to much hardship for the Muslim Community and has forever changed how they are perceived by the world.
ReplyDeleteOn 9/11 Osama Bin Laden sent teams of hijackers to fly into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. At this time Bin Laden was the leader of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda. On the other hand the leader Taliban chief Mullah Omar disagreed with Bin Laden’s ideas to attack the U.S., but was overruled. The Taliban also gave Osama Bin Laden a safe haven in the years leading up to the attacks. The attack itself cost somewhere between $400,000-$500,000 to execute and was funded by Al Qaeda’s sources” (Kottke). Osama Bin Laden was the mastermind behind the attacks and without him the attacks might have not come to fruition.
The three main people who plotted the 9/11 attacks were Osama Bin Laden, Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, and Mohammed Atef. Right after the attacks however no one claimed responsibility for the attacks so the blame was solely on the 19 hijackers. After 9/11 Bin Laden acknowledges Al Qaeda’s involvement in the attacks through taped statements that recorded him talking of planning the attack and praising the attacks success. He talked about how he planned that the planes would hit between 3 and 4 floors. He also stated he figured the fire from the crash would melt the steel structure causing only those floors and the floors above the hit floors to fall. In Conclusion, Bin Laden along with the 19 hijackers were the main players involved in the 9/11 attacks.
The 9/11 attacks have impacted every American life. They have brought us closer because there has been an increased sense of national pride. Hundred of memorials have been built in honor of the people who died during the attacks throughout the United States. To prevent future attacks the federal government has established new agencies to stop terror; for example the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration. These attacks have forever changed the course of American history. Also, it has led to increased stereotypes and racial profiling put on the Muslim population, which has not benefited their livelihood in America. Overall, the 9/11 attacks have changed America for the better and most importantly for the future safety of Americans.

ReplyDeleteThe Taliban group came to power during Afghanistan’s civil war and reigned from 1996 until 2001 (Hayes, Brunner, and Rowen). The group enforced political and military rule throughout most of Afghanistan. The Taliban group publicly stated that “their movement had no role in the 9/11 terror attacks” ("No role in 9/11"). After the 9/11 attacks the Taliban group gave Osama bin Laden “sanctuary” in the years before the attack and declined to hand him over to the United States in light of the 9/11 attacks ("No role in 9/11"). It is possible that Taliban group helped bin Laden’s infamous Al Qaeda group prepare and plan the attacks on the World Trade Center. Although the attacks on the World Trade Center were mostly Al Qaeda’s doing, Taliban clearly had an important role in the attacks regardless of what the Taliban claimed.
ReplyDeleteAl Qaeda is a terrorist group founded by bin Laden in 1989 ("Who is Bin Laden?"). The Al Qaeda organization “were prime suspects” immediately after the attacks occurred (Chossudovsky). In his evening address to the nation, President George Bush stated, “make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them” (Chossudovsky). In other words, the U.S would retaliate equally as fiercely to both those who gave Al Qaeda a safe place to plan the attacks and Al Qaeda themselves. A total of 19 terrorists were required to pilot the planes that were crashed into the WTC. Mohamed Atta is believed to be the pilot of the Flight 11, which crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center ("Tracking the 19 Hijackers"). Al Qaeda orchestrated and executed the attacks on 9/11.
After the WTC attacks, Muslim’s were harshly discriminated against all around the world, but especially in the United States. For example, before the Twin Towers fell, Danya Mustafa, a 9 year old Muslim girl recalls that she “didn’t encounter any problems with their religion”. After the attacks, Mustafa says that “people would call [her] [a] terrorist” (Vigil). Due to 9/11 the Muslim community is now discriminated against much more than ever before.
After the 9/11 attacks, America was in a state of shock. This shock brought American together like it never has been before. Regardless of location, people were devastated. According to Michael Coffey, “New York grieved, the country grieved, and much of the world rallied in emotional support of an effort to avenge the "evil-doers." America exploded in patriotism” (Coffey). In years following the WTC attacks, security at airports has become much stricter to prevent anything like 9/11 from ever happening again. 9/11 ended up uniting the country from all ends, and increased global awareness of the ever-present threat of terrorism.

There were 19 terrorists involved in the 9/11 attacks. Imad Mugniyah, as the military chief of Hezbollah, was a terrorist agent for Iran, he traveled to Saudi Arabia in 2000 to help with preparations for the 9/11 attacks. He was a huge contributor to the destruction of 9/11. Mohammed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, Hani Hanjour were also involved in the destruction. All of the terrorists had planned the attacks for many years, training everyday. Some of the terrorists had lived in the United States for more than a year and had taken flying lessons at American commercial flight schools. Others had slipped into the country months before September 11 and acted as the "muscle" in the operation. The 19 terrorists smuggled box-cutters and knives through security at three East Coast airports and boarded four flights going to California. Soon after takeoff, the terrorists seized the four planes and took control, killing themselves and many innocent people.
Al Qaeda is an Islamic terrorist organization founded by Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. The Taliban is an Islamic militia that took over Afghanistan for a long period of time until it was overthrown in 2001. They were terrible and corrupt leaders and caused many Afghanis to suffer. Both of these terrorist groups combined to cause 9/11. Osama bin Laden and Khalid Sheikj Mohammed were the master minds and the chiefs behind the whole plan. Although they had help, they were the two who called the shots. The two organizations were allegedly acting in retaliation for America's support of Israel, its involvement in the Persian Gulf War and its continued military presence in the Middle East.
Even though we now know that Osama Bin Laden was responsible for the terrorist attacks, initially he denied involvement in the attacks. There was a video found in of Bin Laden discussing the plans for 9/11 in 2001, but the translation was disputable. Later in 2004, a video was aired of him admitting to personally directing the 19 hijackers. On May 2nd 2011 Bin Laden was found and killed. In response to the attacks, the United States launched a War on Terror to overthrow the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and capture Al Qaeda operatives, which is how they found Bin Laden. He was found in a mansion in Islamabad, Pakistan.
9/11 did not just affect Americans; it also had a big effect on the Muslim community too. After the terrorist attacks, people started blaming the Muslims for everything. People and governments all over the world labeled their religion as terrorists, even though that is not the case. Asad Abdi, a Muslim, missed a flight out of Philadelphia because the security officers thought he was a terrorist and did an extensive security check. Even though it has been over ten years since the attack, innocent Muslims still have to deal with harsh stereotypes.

ReplyDeleteIn the United States, the arab community has a population of approximately five million people (Salaita, "Ethnic Identity And Imperative Patriotism: Arab Americans Before And After 9/11."). This is an overwhelmingly large amount of people, and after word was released the arab terrorist group "Al-Qaeda" spear-headed the 9/11 operation, their community experienced a drastic change in their lifestyle. The arab/muslim community before had been a slandered and ignored group, and after 9/11 they became racially profiled as a group that is hostile. Also, people gained suspicion over the muslim community, and they were searched and interrogated unnecessarily.
ReplyDeleteSInce the 9/11 attacks, Americas pride was compromised and precautions were taken in order to feel safe once again. In 2003, "The Patriot Act II" came into affect and this allowed for government officers to search anyone who seems suspicious without warrant or really any outstanding, because an officer may be biased. Another effect from 9/11 is the loss of unity displayed by the country, and this is obvious because at one point people in office would simply agree from valid reason, but now everyone goes their separate ways; additionally, voting became very undefined and difficult to release a verdict. Plus, the U.S experienced and is experiencing a problem where they have no money from all of the money lost on war and this raised the debt ceiling which had become ridiculously high in the U.S (Browning, "4 Major Effects of 9/11 on U.S. Political Landscape."). Lastly, our airport security increased exponentially, and getting to the airport and actually being able to catch a flight is a 2-4 hour ordeal (DeWitt, "9/11's Effect on Security Still Felt.").
The terrorists involved in 9/11 came to a total of 19 perpetrators. Some include: Mohamed Atta, Ahmed Alghamdi, Hamza Alghamdi, and Ahmad Haznawi. Oddly, there has been proof presented that refers to the fact that 9 of the 19 terrorists are in fact alive and taking part in activities. This leads the government to believe that these terrorists may not be the actual terrorists who perpetrated the events, but their identities are unable to be determined and they were committing fraud. Lastly, although there were alleged terrorists, there is rumors that the terrorists were trained by america and were taught how to get by each point of security.
Al-Qaeda, a terrorist group founded by Osama Bin Laden in 1988 after fighting the Soviet Union. Bin Laden was apparently the head of the movement, but truly the plan was spear headed by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. His plan included the planes but "al-Qaeda’s military chief, Mohammed Atef, developed the list of targets for the operation. 'According to KSM,” the commission wrote, using Mohammed’s initials, “bin Laden wanted to destroy the White House and the Pentagon, KSM wanted to strike the World Trade Center, and all of them wanted to hit the Capitol.'" (Dolmetsch, "Osama Bin Laden, Al-Qaeda Terrorist Who Oversaw 9/11 Attacks in U.S., Dies.") So al-Qaeda was directly the perpetrators, but the Taliban supported Osama Bin Laden, and al-Qaeda's moves. It was released to the public that Osama Bin Laden had kidney problems and apparently the Taliban took him in while he was in shelter and gave him dialysis. It's obvious that 9/11 was a truly tragic moment in history and nothing justifies that actions committed on that day by the terrorists, but fortunately the U.S accomplished what they were attempting, and hopefully something so brutal doesn't happen again.

ReplyDeleteThere were a total of nineteen terrorist involved i the events that took place on 9/11. Split between four flights there were between four and five on each flight. All the terrorist happened to be from the middle east and muslim claiming that they would be worshipped if they committed such acts, however in the eyes of many are just viewed as crazy. Not all attacks were successful as United Airlines flight 93 had a group of passengers and crew member that were able to fight back against terrorist. This flight was predicted to fly into the White House and through the sacrifice of those brave sole the plane did not make it to its target.
ReplyDeleteThe events that took place on 9/11, a dreadful day that will never be forgotten by American society. Behind these unscrupulous attacks was a terrorist group known as Al Qaeda goal through theses attacks was to instill fear among the american population and be through the hijacking and crashing of planes into key elements of the american infrastructure it can be said that on that day America was shaken and would now have to face a different kind of fear. Planned by Osama bin laden the leader of Al Qaeda these attacks were the strongest and most remarkable ever noted in American history but have since made america more closely united.
Due to the fact that the members of the terrorist group Al Qaeda were majority muslim, in modern day america many people associate all muslims to being terrorist along with many other people of middle eastern descent. Such racism has caused many political struggles with the placing of certain religious cites because of the prejudice that muslims have acquired.
The 9/11 attacks have had a dramatic effect on America an its people. However these have not stopped the American way of life as intended. These attacks were a mistake and like all mistakes something was learned from them. Changes in homeland security, more specifically airport security have been made to improve American safety. More invasive pat downs and full body scanners have been added to airports to prevent future attacks and have since stopped other attacks. America is unbreakable and will continue to prosper

There were initially 27 hijackers who attempted to enter the United States and participate in the 9/11 attacks. Eventually, 19 Al-Qaeda members were involved in the incident. American Airlines fight 11 was the first plane to strike and hit the north tower. There were 5 hijackers aboard that flight, one being Mohamed Atta, who is believed to have flown the plane that hit the tower. The south tower was second to be hit, also with 5 hijackers. Al-Qaeda member Marwan al-Shehhi is believed to have flown flight 175 into the south tower. The 19 terrorists smuggled knives and box cutters past security and boarded onto 3 planes taking off from the east coast headed for California, because of the massive amounts of fuel that would be loaded in the aircraft. These attacks were allegedly a retaliation for America’s support of Israel and constant military presence in the middle east.
ReplyDeleteThere is no question that Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda are responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Bin Laden, who was the leader of the terrorist group, didn’t emerge until the late 1990s as the groups head. The sources connecting Bin Laden to Al Qaeda are tapes and recording in Arabic, translated roughly into English. An Al Qaeda propoganda tape found in October of 2000 is a major source connecting Bin Laden to the head of the group. Court documents and other records relied upon by many experts, and prosecutors show that Bin Laden and others formed Al Qaeda as a terrorist organization during a series of meetings in Afghanistan in 1988. Interviews of Bin Laden from late 2001 indicate him rejecting any involvement in the terrorists attacks. However in 2004 a tape of Osama Bin Laden was found admitting Al Qaeda’s involvement and his directs association with the 9/11 attacks.
Obviously the destruction of 9/11 affected everyone very deeply. America and its people were devastated about the loss of lives and the fear for their own safety. Because of this fear and uncertainty, we were quick to start finding someone to blame. With the fact that we knew these attacks came from a middle eastern group, the Muslim community living in America were discriminated against and hated upon. Even though these were people living in America, we were still in shock and were scared. Most of the Muslims in the middle east aren’t even terrorists. There is only a small portion of the whole population who are radical terrorists, but we really didn’t care. The United States declared a war on terror and security at airports is much more strict. And unfortunately there is racial profiling with a majority of “random” searches being dealt to Muslims.
