  1. George W. Simmons, out of Virginia, was a victim of the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. At that time, George recently retired from the Xerox Corporation, where he had worked for 32 years as a Manager of Sales. Although he was retired George stayed busy, he loved golf, martini making and especially hanging out with his family and friends. On 9/11 George and his wife, Diane Simmons, board flight 77 enroute to Kauai, Hawaii to bury Diane’s father. He had wanted his remains to be sprinkled over the island and a portion be buried next to his wife, Bea. Both George and his wife died on the flight along with many others. George Simmon is survived by his sons, daughter, brother and friends and will never been forgotten.
Laurence C. Abel was unfortunately stationed in the Twin Towers during these terrorist attacks. Laurence was born and raised in New York. He was a bond analyst at Cantor Fitzgerald for many years. In addition he was in a serious relationship with Ms. Williams, which caused him to move into her apartment in Jamaica, Queens. Laurence loved sports and cars. In 2000 he bought a Honda Accord Coupe in black, which his Ms. Williams said must have been “half his heart.”
Those around him knew David Acre as the most generous guy. When his mother Margaret Acre opened her son’s apartment in Stuyvesant Town, she found letters to Santa Claus from poor children. David Arce by him delivering wished-for toys would answer these letters. David Arce, a fireman, was always like this according to his mother, as a child he would bring home stray animals and kids who needed a meal. Firefighter Arce, who had the nickname Buddha, was a big fan of Joseph Campbell and would have discussions at the firehouse concerning writer’s research into myth and religion. On September 11, 2001, even though his shift was over, he went with Engine Company 33 to the site of the World Trade center.
There are many heroes from September 11, but it is vital to mention Todd Morgan Beamer. Todd attended DePaul University, which gave him the knowledge to become an account manager at Oracle. Todd resided in Cranbury, New Jersey in 2001 with his pregnant wife and two sons. On September 11 Todd was aboard United Airlines Flight 93, which was hijacked by terrorists. Todd knew that he would die from the crash and would not let the terrorist hurt other Americans. He was one of the passengers who attempted to foil the terrorist plans, by reclaiming the aircraft and crashing it into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. According to witnesses, Beamer’s last words were “ Are you guys ready? Ok let’s roll.”
William Rodriguez actions were vital and resulted in the savior of hundreds of people. William is a native of Puerto Rico and is a resident of the State of New Jersey. William had been working approximately for like nineteen year as a maintenance worker in the World Trade Center. On September 11, when the first plane hit, Rodriguez initially rescued fifteen people from the World Trade Center. After that, due to having the only master key to the North Tower stairwells, he bravely lead firefighters up the stairwells. William entered the tower 3 more times after that to save more and more people. He was believed to be the last person to exit the north tower alive; surviving the building collapse by diving beneath a fire truck. Since the Towers were destroyed Rodriguez no longer had work and eventually became homeless due to his unemployment.

  4. Rodney Dickens grew up in crime infested neighborhoods in Washington. He ignored all of the bad influence around him, and was a very good student. He had two sisters and two brothers. Rodney’s favorite hobbies were reading, playing video games, and hanging out with his siblings. He was very close to his single mother, LaShawn. He loved watching professional wrestling on television, and he would not miss it for anything. Rodney was an 11 years old when he boarded American Airlines Flight 77 to California. This plane was hijacked by Al Qaeda terrorists, and crashed into the Pentagon.

Harvey Hermer grew up in Brooklyn. Early in his life he was a body builder. He never went to college, but still considered Columbia football team as his home team. Hermer was a reliable electrician. On September 11, he was working at Cantor Fitzgerald (an investment business). He was in charge of a crew on the 105th floor.

Vanessa Langer was 29 years old and an office manager at a trade center company. She was fast and hardy working, and liked to get the job done. She was so fast moving that she did not walk, she darted. She competed viciously at computer games and family pool football. She did not like curse words, and she tried to get those around her to stop. Vanessa was married to Tim Langer, and was four months pregnant at the time of the attacks.

William Rodriguez lived in New Jersey, and was a native of Puerto Rico. On September 11, Rodriguez was working as a maintenance worker at the WTC. He rescued 15 people from the WTC. Because he was the only one on the site with the master key to the North Tower stairwells, he led firefighters up the stairwell and unlocked doors as they went up. This helped evacuate and save hundreds of people. He went into the towers three more times before they collapsed. He is the last person to exit the North Tower alive. William Rodriguez’s heroic efforts saved hundreds of lives on September 11.

Steven Salzano was a New York Fire department member. On September 11 he was off duty. After seeing the first plane hit he called his firehouse, but they said they did not need his assistance. Once the second plane hit, Salzano immediately reported for duty. He helped rid two floors of fire in the WTC. He also helped douse the flames in another building located on 90 West Street. Salzano’s firehouse lost six men over the course of September 11. Steven Salzano’s bravery and willingness to help in a time of need is something all people recognize and appreciate.

    1. Vincent Abate was a man who died in the WTC on the day of the September 11, 2001 attacks. He loved his brother Andrew, and they traded bonds at Cantor Fitzgerald. For fun, Vincent Abate relaxed by shooting hoops and barbecuing at his summer house at the Jersey Shore, for his brother Andrew, and his sister-in-law Carolyn. He was 44 years of age, living alone in a brownstone in Brooklyn, and brought his 37 year old brother Andrew in the Cantor Fitzgerald business three years before the attack. 2. Jeremy Glick was not a firefighter, not a policeman, and did not work at the World Trade Center, but he saved more lives than any single fireman could. He was a passenger on Flight 93 that was planned to crash into the Capitol building in Washington D.C. He was 6’-2” and weighed approximately 220 pounds. He was a former college Rugby player and he was excellent in Judo. He called his wife Lyz before he died, letting her know he was retaking the plane with others. He also had a loved daughter Emmy. He was one of the few men and women who took hot water and overtook the hijackers. He stopped the plane from crashing into the Capitol and caused the pilots to just crash it into a field in western Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Jeremy Glick was a true hero.
Roy W. Chelsen was a true hero at the 9/11 attacks. He was a firefighter, and in command at Engine 28 Company. He was saving lives at WTC 1, the North Tower. Then he realized after the 2 WTC, the South Tower fell, that the North Tower was going to fall soon. He rounded up a lot of firemen and civilians, and led them out of the South Tower while debris was falling from the North Tower. He was commanding people to get under overpasses, and telling them different places to go and saved all of their lives. He survived the 9/11 attacks, saving many lives, but died in January, 2011 from cancer. Many people believe that the cancer was caused from the inhalation of the debris and pollution. This was a big firefighter hero for 9/11.

Josephine Harris, a grandmother from Brooklyn, was trying to get out of the North Tower. She wasn't walking well and he office was on the 73rd floor. Josephine was exhausted when the firefighters came across her as they were heading down to the lobby. The South Tower had just collapsed moments after the firefighter got to her. When they were on the fourth floor, Josephine couldn't go any further. The North Tower started to go down. Then it was noisy, things began to fly around, and there were dust clouds everywhere. They were hurled around for a moment and then the wreckage settled with them in it. They couldn’t find a way out. They noticed that the second-floor section of the staircase was still there. The firefighters placed a harness around Josephine and slid her down. All of them survived.
